Residents of Parauta received an emergency EsAlert notice this noon to take extra precautions due to the accumulation of smoke from the forest fire that broke out tonight near the Mirador de Igualeja. The alert, as reported by Diario Sur, comes after a night of monitoring in the municipality due to the proximity of the flames and changing winds.
The Emergency Service 112 recommends closing doors and windows to prevent smoke from entering and to avoid travel. Special attention should be given to children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory issues.
“Do not approach the area”
The Minister of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, has reiterated on his official profile the importance of following the emergency services' instructions. “Don't take risks,” states 112 on its profile.
The mayor of Parauta, Katrin Ortega Márquez, has confirmed that the municipality has been monitoring the evolution of the fire throughout the night, especially due to the wind and the proximity of the flames. “We have been watching the wind direction all night. Initially, it was blowing away from Parauta, but it has changed direction several times,” explains the mayor.
The proximity between the two municipalities and the forested nature of this area of the Serranía de Ronda necessitated monitoring any changes in the fire's gusts. Although the urban area has not been evacuated, the evolution of the smoke and the fire ultimately led Emergencies to alert its residents.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and are asking the public not to travel to the affected area and to follow official instructions through Emergency channels.
