The GalmaxGT team from IES Rodríguez Delgado in Ronda needs between €40,000 and €50,000 to travel to Singapore as representatives of Spain in the Steam Racing world final.
The young students of GalmaxGT have set an ambitious goal: to secure enough financial support to participate in the world final of 'Steam Racing' to be held next autumn in Singapore. The students, from IES Rodríguez Delgado, will represent Spain after achieving third place in the national phase and being crowned regional champions with a scale model racing car prototype.
The necessary expenditure to cover travel, accommodation, and registration amounts to a figure ranging from €40,000 to €50,000, an amount the team did not initially foresee. To tackle this challenge, GalmaxGT has launched a fundraising campaign that includes several initiatives.
The students have set up a bank account for donations, launched a sale of t-shirts featuring the team’s logo, and organised a seven-a-side football tournament that will take place on July 31 at the El Fuerte sports facilities. Additionally, they offer various sponsorship levels, with logo presence on the t-shirts depending on the financial contribution made.
The Ronda City Council, through the Municipal Tourism Delegation and the company Turismo de Ronda, has shown its support for the initiative. The councillor for the area, Ángel Martínez, has highlighted the talent of the young people and emphasised the pride of having an educational project born in Ronda reach national and international projection.
Martínez has encouraged companies, entities, institutions, and individuals to collaborate so that the students can cover the travel expenses and represent the city and the country in the international competition. The team aspires to become an ambassador for Ronda at an event that will gather teams from different countries.
'Steam Racing' is a competition that combines science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) with the design and construction of scale model racing car prototypes. Participants must develop a vehicle that meets specific technical specifications and compete in speed and efficiency tests.
For the Ronda team, reaching the world final is recognition of the work and dedication of months. The students have invested hours in design, manufacturing, and testing to achieve a competitive prototype that has earned them a place at the event in Singapore.
