Tikehau Capital will construct a Holiday Inn Express & Suites with 259 rooms next to the Málaga Trade Fair Palace, featuring a pool, gym, and scheduled to open in 2029.

The investment fund Tikehau Capital has confirmed its plans to build a 259-room hotel in the area of the Málaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre (FYCMA). The establishment, which will operate under the Holiday Inn Express & Suites brand, will include 52 suites, an outdoor pool, a sun terrace, and a gym, with its opening scheduled for the first quarter of 2029.

A Hotel Designed for Business and Urban Tourism

The project is part of the hotel platform Selecto, created by Tikehau Capital to develop 'select service' hotels in Spain and Portugal. This model, focused on operational efficiency and sustainability, aims to attract both business travellers and urban tourists. The location, next to FYCMA and halfway between the Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport and the city centre, is strategic to capitalise on the growing flow of congress and tourist traffic in the capital.

The hotel will incorporate the latest design standard from the chain, Generation 5, which focuses on flexible spaces and common areas aimed at enhancing the customer experience. In addition to the 259 rooms, it will feature an outdoor pool, a sun terrace, and a gym, completing an offering designed for short stays and travellers seeking functionality without compromising on quality.

A Multi-Million Investment in the Iberian Peninsula

The Málaga hotel is part of an initial portfolio of four developments that Tikehau Capital is undertaking in Madrid, Barcelona, and Málaga. Together, these initial assets represent an investment of over 150 million euros, although the company has not specified the exact cost of the project in the Costa del Sol capital. The goal of the Selecto platform is to achieve an investment volume of between 300 and 350 million euros in the coming years, consolidating its commitment to the 'select service' segment in Iberia.

The choice of Málaga is not coincidental. The city is experiencing a hotel boom driven by congress tourism and the appeal of the Costa del Sol. With this new establishment, the accommodation offering around FYCMA will be strengthened, which could attract more international events and generate a positive impact on the local economy. For Málaga residents, the opening of this hotel represents another option for hosting visitors or business clients, with a recognised brand and services tailored to current needs.

From Tikehau Capital, they highlight that the project aligns with their strategy to develop efficient and sustainable hotels, managed under international brands. The firm, based in Paris and present throughout Europe, is confident in the growth potential of the hotel sector in Spain, especially in urban and business destinations like Málaga.

What Does This Mean for Málaga?

The arrival of a Holiday Inn Express & Suites next to FYCMA reinforces Málaga's position as a congress and business destination. The Trade Fair Palace hosts dozens of events each year that attract thousands of visitors, and the demand for quality accommodation in its vicinity is growing. This hotel, with its offering of 259 rooms and services such as a pool and gym, will fill a niche that has not been fully addressed until now: that of the traveller seeking a functional stay but with an added level of comfort.

For the people of Málaga, the news may have a dual impact. On one hand, the creation of jobs during the construction and subsequent operation of the hotel. On the other, the revitalisation of the area, which already has the Málaga Nostrum shopping centre and is well connected by metro line 2. The opening is scheduled for 2029, but timelines may adjust depending on the project's progress.

Meanwhile, Tikehau Capital continues with its expansion plan in the Iberian Peninsula. The Selecto platform, launched just a few months ago, already has these four hotels in its portfolio and is seeking new opportunities in cities with high tourist and business demand. Málaga, with its climate, air connectivity, and thriving economy, is shaping up to be one of the key markets for the firm.
