The socialist group demands that the Málaga City Council transform the current Project Acceleration Unit into an Accelerated Protected Housing Office. They denounce that the IMV only delivered two VPOs in all of 2025 while there are nearly 35,000 applicants.
The PSOE will present a proposal at the first ordinary plenary session of the political course for the Málaga City Council to convert the current Project Acceleration Unit into an Accelerated Protected Housing Office. The aim, according to the socialists, is to expedite urban planning licenses and prioritise actions that increase the supply of affordable housing as quickly as possible, as reported by Diario Sur.
The spokesperson and deputy spokesperson for the municipal group, Mariano Ruiz Araujo and Mari Carmen Martín, argue that the city needs housing more than large projects. In their argument, they point out that the number of applicants for protected housing is around 35,000 people, while the Municipal Housing Institute only delivered two VPOs in all of 2025.
“What Málaga needs, more than large projects, are homes for the people of Málaga; we cannot lose sight of this objective, which is why if the Office is already created, it must be dedicated to what matters”
The socialists add that the municipal rental housing stock has only grown by 60 units in the last decade. Martín criticises that the PP's Housing Plan, which ends in 2027, is not delivering the expected results.

The PSOE cites the development on Calle Ingeniero José María Garnica, next to the Urban Planning Management, with works started in February 2021, halted and not delivered, affecting 35 families. They also mention the R-14 plot, in the vicinity of the University, where 69 homes were planned to be allocated since 2024.
“These are the reasons why we are asking for an accelerator; these are times when we need to expedite procedures and bureaucracy and enable access to housing for the Málaga residents who need it, and who cannot access free rental housing because prices have skyrocketed”
Martín also points out that the 1,362 homes in Buenavista promoted by the Government have waited two years to obtain the urbanisation project from the Urban Planning Management.

The motion will be debated in this month's ordinary plenary session at the Málaga City Council.
