The Junta of Andalusia has awarded improvement works for road safety on the A-343 road, which provides access to Antequera via the A-92 motorway. The investment amounts to over 1.3 million euros, specifically 1,320,238 euros.
The Ministry of Development and Mobility reported that the works will begin in October and will focus on the section between kilometres 2.3 and 5 of this road. The action will include the remodeling of two intersections into roundabouts and the renewal of the pavement with the aim of reducing accidents and improving traffic flow.
Details of the work
The Minister of Development, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, highlighted that these works are important for increasing safety and comfort on one of the main arteries of Antequera, which handles daily traffic of over 6,000 vehicles. Additionally, the road has dangerous crossings linked to entrances and exits of agricultural estates.
Currently, the A-343 has several T-shaped intersections that create safety limitations. The works, awarded to the company Construcciones y Asfaltados Magecar, will cover two crossings: the first is located at kilometre 2.3, where it connects with the A-7284 road and a rural path, and the second is at kilometre 3.1, where accesses such as Camino de la Dehesilla and the road to the Patronato de los Jarales intersect.
Improvements and safety
The crossings will be replaced by two large roundabouts, with outer diameters of 50 and 56 metres, which will improve traffic order and minimise risk points. Furthermore, the work includes the renewal of the pavement, new signage over a stretch of 2.7 kilometres, the installation of safety barriers, and the landscaping improvement of the interior of the roundabouts. The replacement of the railing of the bridge over the Guadalhorce River with a metal parapet that complies with current regulations is also planned.
