In Málaga, the Junta of Andalucía has requested the Spanish Government to expedite the execution of road and rail infrastructures. This demand was made by the councillor for Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, during his speech at the Plenary of the Andalusian Parliament.
Demands from the Junta
Muñoz-Atanet presented a letter sent to the Ministry of Transport, detailing the main infrastructure needs. The councillor highlighted that these infrastructures are vital for increasing competitiveness and cohesion in Andalucía.
Among the main requests in the railway sector are the improvement of the Cercanías network, the railway connection between Santa Justa and San Pablo, as well as the execution of projects such as the coastal train of the Costa del Sol and the high-speed Sevilla-Huelva-Faro line.
The councillor also mentioned the importance of ensuring the arrival of the AVE to Almería and completing the Mediterranean corridor and the renovation of the Algeciras-Bobadilla railway line. He also called for concrete actions to address the so-called "rail blackout" in provinces such as Jaén and Almería, which are affected in their connections with Madrid due to ongoing works since September 2026.
State of the road network
Regarding the roads, Muñoz-Atanet pointed out that the deterioration of the state network is evident and demanded quick attention from the Government to improve the maintenance of the roads and resolve congestion in important stretches such as the A-7 motorway in Málaga and the AP-4 between Sevilla and Cádiz.
The councillor expressed his dissatisfaction at having to repeat previous demands, stressing that infrastructures are a key element for the development and well-being of Andalucía. He lamented that the Sectoral Conference on Transport, which should have been held twice a year, has not been convened in four years, reflecting the Government's lack of commitment to the transport needs of the community.
Finally, Muñoz-Atanet called for temporary solutions while long-term projects are developed, emphasising the need to increase investment and improve dialogue with the autonomous communities on these essential issues for the future of Andalucía.
