Málaga's Municipal Urban Planning Department has dismissed Javier Pérez de la Fuente, head of the Architecture and Infrastructure department, a position he held since 2007. The reasons for his dismissal and who will replace him are unknown.
Málaga's Municipal Urban Planning Department has dismissed Javier Pérez de la Fuente, head of the Architecture and Infrastructure department and municipal architect, as confirmed by Diario Sur. The decision was made by councillor Carmen Casero and manager José María Morente, who are responsible for the department.
Pérez de la Fuente had held the position of head of projects since 2007, nearly twenty years, making him the longest-serving department head within the organisation. During his tenure, he oversaw projects such as the Pompidou Museum, the renovation of Alameda Principal, and the headquarters of the Urban Planning Department itself.
So far, the reasons behind the Urban Planning leadership's decision have not been made public, nor has the identity of the person who will replace him.
The change comes at a time when the City Council is undertaking notable works such as the renovation of the Pedregalejo seafront, which has faced criticism from local residents regarding the results they are observing, and the park on the grounds of Campamento Benítez, which is experiencing more delays than anticipated.
An architect from the University of Seville in 1988, Pérez de la Fuente has also been an associate professor at the School of Architecture of Málaga and director of the FYM Chair of Innovation in Construction Materials.
