In Málaga, the first vice president and minister of Presidency, Health and Emergencies of the Andalusian government, Antonio Sanz, proposed today the appointment of María de los Ángeles García Rescalvo as the new manager of the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). This decision will be submitted to the Government Council at its next meeting on Wednesday.
García Rescalvo comes to this position after having been the manager of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada. Sanz highlighted that she has the necessary training and experience to lead the SAS in this new phase, emphasizing her background in Medicine and Surgery and her specialization in Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, and Pain Therapy.
A team with experience and challenges ahead
Antonio Sanz mentioned that García Rescalvo has held leadership roles in key initiatives, such as the Deputy Directorate of Surgical Planning. Her career has been recognized with awards in the field of health management, reflecting her commitment to the continuous improvement of the public health system.
At the same event, Sanz also announced the proposal of Antonio Luis Cansino as the new general director of Health Care. After having been the manager of the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella, Cansino has extensive experience in the SAS and has held important management positions in different areas.
New challenges for Andalusian healthcare
Sanz stated that one of the challenges in this new phase is the approval of a new Law of Guarantee for the Andalusian Public Health System. This legislative framework aims to modernize the health system, adapting it to new social and demographic needs, such as aging and mental health.
Additionally, policies will be implemented to strengthen public health, including the establishment of a Public Health Emergency Committee that will address issues such as pandemics and climate change. There are also plans to promote health education that prepares citizens for health risks.
The Health Minister emphasized the need to drive a digital transformation in the health system, leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence and Big Data to improve management and patient care.
Finally, the creation of a health innovation hub at the Muñoz Cariñanos Hospital in Seville was mentioned, aimed at fostering collaboration between different sectors to develop technological solutions in the health system.
