Two wildfires were declared on Tuesday in the province of Málaga: in Casabermeja and El Borge. The first is controlled and the second is extinguished.
The province of Málaga experienced a tense day on Tuesday with the declaration of two wildfires in the municipalities of Casabermeja and El Borge, which immediately mobilised the forces of the Forest Fire Extinction Service (Infoca). After seven in the evening, the fire in Casabermeja was brought under control, while that in El Borge was declared extinguished.
The fire in Casabermeja started at 13:35 in the area known as Los Portales, according to Infoca's reports on social media. Three helicopters —one heavy, one semi-heavy, and one light— were dispatched to the area, along with four ground-loading aircraft, 66 ground personnel, and three fire engines. By 19:00, the technicians managed to control the perimeter, meaning that the fire is surrounded by a line without vegetation, although there may still be hot spots inside. Teams continue to work on extinguishing and finalising efforts.
The Provincial Consortium of Firefighters (CPB) assisted in the tasks, and the Casabermeja Town Hall facilitated water loading at the municipal pool to supply aerial and ground resources. Infoca publicly thanked both collaborations.
Meanwhile, the fire in El Borge, declared around 13:00 in the area of La Alquería, was declared extinguished at 19:25. Extinction is declared when technicians verify that there is no possibility of the fire reigniting.
These two fires add to those recorded last Sunday in the province: one in Arroyo España, near the A-7 motorway at the height of Puerto de la Torre in Málaga city, and another in Cerro del Águila in Colmenar. On that occasion, both were controlled without major consequences.
The risk of wildfires remains high in the province. According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), on Wednesday the maximum danger level is concentrated in the northern part of the province, in the Antequera area. On Thursday, the risk will decrease slightly, although most of the interior will remain at a “very high” level, while the coast will be at low or very low levels.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Aemet forecasts that the maximum danger will extend again across the northern half of Málaga, with only the coastal strip remaining at low levels. Temperatures, which have been prominent in recent weeks, will remain high, with maximums ranging from 30 degrees on the coast to 35 in the interior, although there are currently no active warnings.
Summer is the time of highest risk for fires, and the province of Málaga has experienced several scares in recent days. Authorities remind the importance of taking precautions, avoiding any activity that could generate fire, and calling 112 at any sign of smoke or flame.
