On September 10, 2026, the official launch of the harvest campaign for the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) ‘Aloreña Olive from Málaga’ took place in Alhaurín el Grande. The territorial delegate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Laura Soto, highlighted the recovery of the sector during this event, where a harvest of up to 3 million kilos of high-quality olives is anticipated.
During her speech, Laura Soto emphasized that the rainfall during the winter and spring of this year has been beneficial for the olive groves. This, along with the low incidence of the olive fruit fly, allows for an expected average harvest of between 2.5 and 3 million kilograms.
Visit to Agricultural Facilities
The delegate was accompanied by the mayor of Alhaurín el Grande, Anthony Bermúdez, and the president of the Regulatory Council, Juan Miguel Gómez Trujillo. Together, they visited the facilities of Aceitunas y Encurtidos Bravo. They then moved to a farm to collect the first olives of this campaign.
Soto praised the work of the Regulatory Council of the Aloreña Olive, highlighting its commitment to representing and promoting this emblematic product. The PDO covers a production area that includes 19 municipalities, spanning 17,800 hectares and benefiting around 3,000 families.
Support for Farmers
The delegate also referred to the challenges faced by farmers in recent years, especially after several campaigns affected by droughts. In 2025, recovery began with nearly 1.79 million kilos of olives recorded, in contrast to the low figures of previous years.
Laura Soto emphasized the aid provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, which exceeded one million euros in 2025, benefiting nearly 1,500 olive growers in the Guadalhorce region. These compensations were key in helping farmers cope with the losses suffered in the previous year's harvest campaign.
Furthermore, she highlighted that the Territorial Delegation actively collaborates with the PDO in monitoring pests, through the Plant Health Alert and Information Network of Andalusia. She also underscored the Andalusian Government's effort to subsidize agricultural insurance, doubling the budget since the arrival of President Juanma Moreno in 2019.
