The Vicente Aleixandre Cultural Centre hosted the Local Police Day event, where four red crosses, seven purple crosses, and thirteen public commendations were awarded. The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, announced 13 new officer positions and an equipment contract of €62,700.
The Local Police of Alhaurín de la Torre celebrated its main day this Friday with an event at the Vicente Aleixandre Cultural Centre presided over by the mayor, Joaquín Villanova, and the Councillor for Citizen Security, Francisco José Sánchez. The day served to present the decorations approved by the council and to detail the planned reinforcements within the force.
The town hall awarded four police merit crosses with a red insignia, seven with a purple insignia (for 20 years of service), and thirteen public commendations for outstanding actions. One of the red crosses and one of the commendations were awarded to civil guards. The distinctions were unanimously approved in various plenary sessions according to the municipal Regulations of Honours and Distinctions.
Villanova congratulated the officers for their "public service vocation" and highlighted that their work requires "commitment, responsibility, preparation, sacrifice, and often the ability to act in difficult situations while others look to you for peace and security." He also expressed gratitude to those who "patrol our streets every day, respond to calls, regulate traffic, intervene in emergencies, collaborate with other bodies, and work to ensure coexistence and safety."
The mayor emphasised the "important prior effort" and the "notable work capacity" required to "prepare, organise, and provide resources to those responsible for protecting us," a "conviction" that, he assured, "we at the Town Hall want to maintain and reinforce."
In this regard, he recalled that the council has called for 13 new officer positions, which will be added to the eight already awarded in the previous process, and whose holders are now completing the mandatory training course before joining. Additionally, a new equipment contract worth €62,700 has been put out to tender to renew and expand the protection and work resources of the Local Police.
Family members and friends of the awardees attended the event, along with representatives from the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, Firefighters, and other bodies from neighbouring towns, as well as brotherhoods, associations, and groups from the municipality. The celebration coincided with the feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the patrons of the force.
