The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has reorganised parking on the service road of Avenida de las Américas, next to the roundabout leading to Mercadona, with angled parking that nearly doubles the available spaces.
The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has completed a new road safety improvement project on the Avenida de las Américas. The work has focused on the section closest to the roundabout that provides access to the Mercadona shopping area, on the service road situated to the right heading towards Málaga.
The intervention, carried out by the Road Signalling Department, involved repainting and reorganising the surface parking area. The lines have been drawn to allow angled parking instead of parallel parking, which effectively means almost doubling the number of spaces.
“We have managed to significantly increase the number of available spaces without taking up more public space,” explained the Councillor for Citizen Security and Mobility, Francisco José Sánchez.
The aim is to benefit workers and customers in the area, enhance the visibility of the road markings, and improve traffic management at this point.
This action adds to the recent improvements made by the Road Signalling Department and the Operational Services Area, led by Rodrigo Jiménez, at the nearby Mercadona roundabout. New pedestrian crossings with corresponding lowered curbs have been painted, an island has been raised, and a small pavement has been constructed to facilitate pedestrian passage on the eastern side of the avenue.
The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, has also announced that the roundabout will be beautified with the installation of a sculpture by the artist Manuel Marín, who lived in Alhaurín de la Torre until his death in 2007.
