The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has awarded Jocon Infraestructuras S.L. the construction of a new rainwater collector for just over €1.5 million. The project, which will be financed with a state grant due to the DANA of 2024, will be executed over eight months in several streets in the southern part of the urban area.
The Town Hall of Alhaurín de la Torre has awarded the contract for the construction of a new rainwater collector in the southern area of the urban centre. The company Jocon Infraestructuras S.L. will carry out the work after presenting a bid of just over €1.5 million, as reported by the council. Four proposals were submitted for the procedure, and the execution period is eight months.
The project includes the restoration of the rainwater drainage system in the streets of Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, Cabo de Gata, José Espronceda, and avenida de la Calera until its connection with the Arroyo del Gato. The work will be carried out in sections along these roads.
The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, explained that the intervention will involve reorganising the entire rainwater network to channel and divert water from the streams and prevent flooding in the southern area of the urban centre, similar to the one that affected Carranque during the DANA in autumn 2024.

The funding comes from a grant awarded to the Town Hall by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, as part of the state plan for repairing hydraulic infrastructures damaged by the DANA.
The technical studies conducted after that episode confirmed that the existing network is insufficient to evacuate the large volumes of torrential rain. The axis of the streets Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente and Cabo de Gata relies on a collector of limited capacity, while avenida de la Calera lacks an adequate network, making drainage difficult and promoting water accumulation in its roundabout and overflow into lower areas.
To correct this, a new drainage network will be installed with high-capacity collectors, new drains, and surface capture systems that will intercept runoff from higher elevations and direct it to the Arroyo del Gato. Additionally, the sewage system will be reorganised, and wastewater will be separated so that discharges operate by gravity, eliminating pumping systems and reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs.
The works will begin in the streets José Espronceda, avenida de la Calera, Cabo de Gata, and Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, and will last for eight months.
