In Málaga, Alcampo has made public an evaluation of its work to reduce food waste coinciding with Food Waste Week. Since 2017, the company has implemented a series of actions to minimise food losses throughout its process.José Luis Ares, Operational Performance Director, and Yolanda Fernández, Director of CSR, Quality, Communication and External Relations at Alcampo, have presented the results at the 14th Meeting Point against Food Waste organised by AECOC.

Initiatives and technology in the fight against waste

Alcampo has incorporated prevention, technology, and the involvement of its teams into its strategy against waste. One of the innovative tools is Smartway, which is active in all stores and allows for the identification of products close to their expiry date and the application of discounts to optimise their sale.In 2025, this technology saved more than 8.4 million products.

In addition to price reductions, Alcampo has implemented the flash sales system on its online platform, where products can be purchased with discounts of up to 30%. Initiatives such as Happy Box, which offers baskets of fruits and vegetables in perfect condition but with aesthetic imperfections, are also noteworthy.

Social commitment and donations

Alcampo also contributes to reducing waste through donations to social organisations. Since 2012, it has collaborated with the Spanish Federation of Food Banks, and in 2025, donations reached over 2 million euros in products. This support has allowed for donations worth 780,000 euros to be recorded in the first half of 2026.

The company continues to align its efforts with a focus on continuous improvement, always seeking the active participation of each store and its employees, as well as the exchange of best practices to optimise its actions. Alcampo plans to continue expanding its initiatives to keep fighting against food waste.
