The Convent of San Francisco has been hosting the exhibition of the XVI edition of the contest since Thursday, with €3,000 for the winning work. The jury's decision will be announced on 2 October, during the Real Feria de San Miguel.
The Convent of San Francisco in Vélez-Málaga has been hosting the exhibition of the participating works in the XVI edition of the Evaristo Guerra Painting Prize since Thursday. The exhibition will be open until 31 October in the same exhibition hall.
The contest is promoted by the Malaga Provincial Council in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Vélez-Málaga City Council. This edition awards three prizes: €3,000 for the winning work, €1,000 for the first runner-up, and €500 for the second runner-up.
The jury's decision and the award ceremony will take place on 2 October, during the Real Feria de San Miguel, in the exhibition hall itself. The results will also be available on the Malaga Provincial Council's website.
The Councillor for Culture, Alicia Ramírez, has stated that the contest is an opportunity for artists to showcase their potential and has advocated for maintaining such initiatives in the cultural programming of the municipality.
“From Culture, we decided to implement a line of action to give opportunities to local artists, which is why, thanks to the Provincial Council, we are celebrating the Evaristo Guerra Painting Prize once again this year.”
The painter Evaristo Guerra has expressed gratitude to the City Council and the Provincial Council for keeping his legacy alive and allowing other artists to shine through a competition that honours his career.
“As always, I am grateful for keeping my name alive and continuing to promote culture in the municipality, as this area is doing, with ingenious and varied activities for all ages.”
The selected works can already be viewed at the Convent of San Francisco. The exhibition closes on 31 October and the jury's verdict will be revealed on 2 October.
