The Vélez-Málaga City Council allocates €20,000 to grants for self-employed individuals and SMEs starting, relocating, or modernising their activities in the old town. The grants cover up to 100% of the investment and are paid in advance.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council has opened a call for economic aid to promote commercial activity and the rehabilitation of the Historic Centre. The initiative, managed by the Historic Centre Department, has an initial budget of €20,000, which can be increased depending on demand, and offers grants of up to €4,000 per project, covering 100% of the investment.
The grants are aimed at self-employed individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises operating within the scope of the Special Protection and Internal Reform Plan (PEPRI). Those who start a new business, relocate their activity to the old town, renovate or expand an existing establishment, or incorporate technological improvements, accessibility, or energy efficiency can benefit.
Eligible expenses include renovation and adaptation works of premises, acquisition of equipment and furniture, technical installations, energy efficiency actions, facade improvements, digitalisation projects, purchase of software and hardware, as well as municipal fees, licenses, technical studies, or professional advice related to the activity.
Applications can be submitted until 30 September 2026 at the General Registry of the City Council or through the municipal electronic headquarters. Grants will be awarded through direct concession, following verification of compliance with the requirements established in the guidelines.
One of the most notable aspects of the call is that the City Council will pay 100% of the grant in advance, without requiring guarantees, aiming to facilitate the implementation of the projects. As a requirement, beneficiaries must maintain their activity for a minimum of two years and properly justify the use of the funds received.
The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, highlighted that the measure aims to
“recover the dynamism of the Historic Centre, encouraging the establishment of new businesses, supporting those already operating in the area, and generating new employment and economic growth opportunities.”
For his part, the councillor for the Historic Centre, Juan Fernández Olmo, pointed out that the call responds to a demand from the business and commercial fabric, with a
“simple and agile”procedure to facilitate the opening and modernisation of establishments.
Interested parties can consult all the information, including the regulatory bases and necessary documentation, on the Vélez-Málaga City Council website. This initiative is part of other municipal actions to revitalise the old town, such as the pedestrianisation of streets or cultural programming, aiming to attract visitors and promote economic activity.
The call is open until 30 September 2026, and interested parties are advised to submit their applications as soon as possible, as the budget is limited and will only be expanded if justified by demand.
