The Málaga Regional University Hospital has incorporated a new surgical technique to treat uterine prolapse, thus allowing the preservation of patients' uterus. This technique was presented during a training surgical session led by specialist Agustín Sampietro.
Benefits of the new technique
The Splentis mesh hysteropexy is particularly indicated for women aged 40 or 45 and above who suffer from uterine prolapse and wish to preserve their organ. Unlike traditional methods, many of which require the removal of the uterus, this procedure keeps the organ in its correct position using a specific support system.
The acting head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics department, Isaac Cohen, has highlighted that this technique represents a significant advance in the treatment of uterine prolapse. He states that the option to preserve the uterus is aimed at tailoring the treatment to the needs and expectations of each woman, which can benefit their quality of life.
Impact on patients' quality of life
The preservation of the uterus and female anatomy are key considerations of this new technique. It helps maintain the functionality of the pelvic floor and improves aspects such as sexual relationships for those patients who are in the indicated situation for this intervention.
The implementation of this technique also included a live surgery, where professionals from the Gynaecology and Obstetrics department were able to learn about the technical aspects of the procedure. This supports the ongoing training of staff and the subsequent transfer of knowledge to daily clinical practice.
