The Vélez-Málaga City Council has completed the renovation works on Calle Copo in Torre del Mar, with an investment of €177,466. The project has renewed 640 square meters of pavement and improved accessibility.
The renovation works on Calle Copo in Torre del Mar have concluded after three months of work, according to the Vélez-Málaga City Council. The project, funded by the 2025 Agricultural Employment Promotion Programme (PFEA), has involved an investment of €177,466.66 and has addressed approximately 640 square meters of surface area.
The works, reported by Diario Sur, focused on renewing pavements and sidewalks, with accessibility as the main criterion. Nine new trees have been planted, with their tree pits located outside the pedestrian pathway to avoid future damage. Existing angled parking spaces have been maintained.
The first deputy mayor and Torre del Mar's deputy mayor, Jesús Pérez Atencia (GIPMTM), highlighted that the project allows for "progress in the renewal and improvement of our public spaces and streets," with special attention to accessibility and the residents' environment. Calle Copo is located in the traditional Poniente neighbourhood, where the Council has carried out other works such as on Ancla, Vela, Caracola, and Poniente streets.
“Residents remember that the last works carried out in this area had to be paid for through fees to the City Council,” Pérez Atencia noted.
The councillor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros (PP), explained that the project involved four skilled workers and thirty labourers and that the new pavement maintains the sky blue and white finish of other PFEA interventions in Torre del Mar. The project is part of a package of PFEA 2025 projects valued at €718,740 across the municipality, of which over €471,000 corresponds to labour and about €236,000 to materials and machinery.
In addition to Calle Copo, the programme has included works in Chilches, Benajarafe, Paraíso del Sol, Los Íberos, Montaño street, and the Route of the Bandereros, as well as in areas of Vélez-Málaga such as Huerto Vicaría, Tenería, and Avenida de las Naciones.
The Council plans to complete the second phase of Doctor Fleming street between late October and November and is preparing to tender for the third phase. Calle Copo itself will have a continuation in its southern stretch, already included in a new PFEA. “We will continue with the same pavement in the southern area that needs to be renewed,” Claros announced, who also mentioned a reorganisation of the angled parking to increase the number of spaces.
