Mayor Jesús Lupiáñez and the territorial delegate of Agriculture, Laura Soto, agree to jointly study the Tecnoalimentario Park and the area around El Trapiche aerodrome, as technicians link both flooding issues.
The City Council of Vélez-Málaga and the Junta de Andalucía have agreed on a new roadmap to tackle the flooding of the Tecnoalimentario Park and the area around the El Trapiche aerodrome. The decision was made during a working meeting held this Thursday between the mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, and the territorial delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development in Málaga, Laura Soto, along with their technical teams.
Also participating in the meeting were the councillor for Agriculture, Jesús María Claros, and the councillor for Urban Planning, Celestino Rivas. The technical analyses conducted by both administrations conclude that the flooding conditions of the Tecnoalimentario Park are directly related to those of the area where the aerodrome is located, so the solution must address both areas in a coordinated manner.
The mayor explained that the City Council will continue working with municipal technicians and contracted professionals to define the approach to the action and establish a phased plan. The aim is to start addressing the needs of the Tecnoalimentario Park without losing sight of the overall environment.
“We have agreed to continue advancing with our technical team to present a phased plan that allows us to improve, firstly, the flooding of the Tecnoalimentario Park and, at the same time, cover the entire area,” Lupiáñez stated.
The mayor emphasized the strategic nature of this area for the municipality's economy, both due to the business activity of the park and the potential of the aerodrome. In this regard, he recalled that three pilot schools operate in Vélez-Málaga and that the aerodrome is considered a benchmark for sports aviation.
The action on the wall of the Tecnoalimentario Park has several years of background and has been the subject of various municipal budget forecasts. The new approach seeks to adapt the solution to current conditions and define the necessary actions to execute them in phases.
The City Council maintains an open line of technical work with the Junta de Andalucía to improve the hydraulic conditions of this area and promote the development of a zone considered key for the business and economic activity of the municipality.
