The Plenary of the Nerja Town Hall approved the proposal on July 31 with votes from the PP and PSOE and the abstention of Podemos IU. Mayor Armijo received him this Wednesday.
The Nerja Town Hall is finalising the procedures for the appointment of José Luis Fernández Salazar as the new Substitute Justice of the Peace, a key figure in ensuring local justice services. The proposal was approved by the Plenary of the Corporation on July 31 with votes in favour from the PP and PSOE, and the abstention of Podemos Izquierda Unida.
This Wednesday, Mayor José Alberto Armijo welcomed Fernández at the Town Hall to personally congratulate him on his election, in a meeting also attended by the current Justice of the Peace, Antonio Jaime. During the reception, the mayor highlighted the new substitute judge's career and his roots in the municipality.
"He is a very beloved and respected person in our town, with a long history of commitment to Nerja, its traditions, and its associative fabric," said Armijo, who expressed his conviction that José Luis Fernández will carry out his new responsibility "with the closeness, sensitivity, and vocation he has always demonstrated."
Fernández is a well-known businessman in the area and closely linked to the cultural and social life of Nerja, where he has dedicated much of his life to promoting and preserving popular traditions. The mayor thanked him for his willingness to take on the role and emphasised that Antonio and José Luis will form a tandem that will ensure the proper provision of local justice public service.
The plenary agreement will now be sent to the Governing Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia for his corresponding appointment. Once this procedure is completed, Fernández will take an oath and assume the position, providing the municipality with a reinforcement in the administration of justice.
The role of the substitute justice of the peace is essential to cover absences and ensure the agility of judicial procedures in the municipality, a service that residents use daily for matters such as small claims or conciliation acts. With this change, Nerja ensures the continuity of a public service that is now in the hands of a well-known figure in the town.
