The Civil Guard has arrested a Spanish man, the main suspect in the murder of a man whose remains were found on August 4 in the Yesa reservoir, in Zaragoza.
The remains were discovered by a swimmer who alerted the emergency services. From that moment, the security forces carried out a search operation, although no further human remains or material related to the case were located.
Identification of the Victim
Initially, the Civil Guard consulted databases of missing persons, but no match was found with the description of the deceased. However, a tattoo of the French Foreign Legion and the proximity to France led to a request for international cooperation to identify the deceased.
Shortly after, a missing person report was received that matched the characteristics of the man found. This information led the authorities to search the missing man's home in Pamplona, where evidence was found that advanced the investigation.
Development of the Investigation
The relationship between the victim and the suspect was tense, with mutual complaints over living issues. At the time of his arrest on September 8, the suspect was walking the dogs he shared with the victim, indicating a possible closer connection between the two.
Investigators also found signs of an attempted cleanup at the location where both resided and evidence that the suspect had been active in the vicinity of the reservoir on the dates of the crime. Evidence was found suggesting the use of tools like a reciprocating saw, which has not yet been recovered.
Additionally, searches on the suspect's phone related to meat dismemberment and notorious crimes were detected, adding more weight to the investigation.
As a result of these findings, the Investigating Judge has ordered the provisional detention of the suspect without bail.
