The Antequera City Council has presented the comprehensive renovation project of the Andalucía promenade to traders and hoteliers, which will begin on September 15 with an investment of €1.46 million.
The Andalucía promenade in Antequera is facing its definitive transformation. The comprehensive renovation works of this street, one of the main commercial arteries of the city, will begin on September 15 and will last for 16 months, as announced by the City Council on Monday during an informational meeting with local business owners.
The mayor, Manolo Barón, presided over the meeting, held in the Plenary Hall, alongside the deputy mayors of Tourism, Commerce and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián; of Works and Maintenance, Teresa Molina; and of Security and Traffic, Antonio García Mendoza, as well as the councillor for Employment Policies and Activities, Paqui Sánchez. Municipal technician Carlos García was responsible for detailing the technical aspects of the project.
The intervention, which will involve an investment of €1,459,260, will be carried out by the company JICAL S.L. and will be developed in four successive phases, so that the different sections of the promenade will be progressively renewed to minimize inconveniences.
The project includes the renewal of pavements and drainage systems, the improvement of rainwater collection, the expansion of pedestrian areas, and the removal of architectural barriers. The current marble pavement will be replaced with granite, while the existing orange trees will be preserved along the entire street.
Traffic, loading and unloading, and parking spaces will also be reorganised, and some urban elements will be adapted to the new configuration of the promenade. In the case of the terraces of hospitality establishments, an underground empty conduit will be installed as a pre-installation, so that each business can later bring the electrical supply from its own premises to the terrace area, thus avoiding overhead or hanging wiring.
During the meeting, traders and hoteliers were informed that, before the start of each phase, they will be notified about the corresponding traffic modifications, ensuring pedestrian access to the establishments at all times.
With this intervention, the Antequera City Council aims to strengthen the role of the Andalucía promenade as one of the main urban and commercial axes of the city, improving its accessibility, sustainability, and functionality.
Residents and visitors should pay attention to municipal notices in the coming weeks, as street closures and circulation changes will be communicated before each phase of the works.
