The Government Subdelegation in Salamanca has condemned the last two murders due to gender violence in Spain, which occurred in Antequera and Toledo. María was murdered on July 20 in the Málaga town.
The crime of María, murdered on July 20 in Antequera, raises the number of women victims of gender violence in Spain to 31 in 2026. The Government Subdelegation in Salamanca has called for a minute of silence this Thursday to condemn this murder and that of Rossana Katherine, which occurred the following day in Alameda de la Sagra (Toledo).
The act, replicated in all government delegations across the country, served to show institutional rejection of these crimes and to convey condolences to the families and friends of the victims. According to data from the Ministry of Equality, with these two cases, 31 women have been murdered due to gender violence in 2026, a figure that continues to rise.
Additionally, three minors have died this year as victims of this macho violence. The Ministry has also reported that, since 2013, 68 children have been murdered due to gender violence against their mothers, and 530 minors have been left orphaned. In 2026 alone, there are already 20 orphans due to this cause.
The murder of María in Antequera has shocked the province of Málaga, where expressions of outrage are ongoing. Authorities remind that macho violence is a violation of fundamental rights and call for social unity to eradicate it.
The phone number 016 remains the main resource for victims, operational 24 hours a day and leaving no trace on the bill. The email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, WhatsApp 600 000 016, and the chat on the Government Delegation's website against Gender Violence are also available. In emergencies, 112, 091 (National Police), and 062 (Civil Guard) can be used, as well as the AlertCops application.
Since official statistics began in 2003, a total of 1,372 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain. The Ministry of Equality insists on the need to maintain awareness and institutional response to this scourge.
