The Diputación de Málaga has scheduled around twenty cultural activities for next week, with flamenco as the main focus. Performances, workshops, and exhibitions will reach 18 municipalities in the province, from the capital to towns in the Serranía de Ronda and Axarquía.
The Diputación de Málaga has presented an ambitious cultural programme for next week, which includes everything from flamenco performances to piano concerts and sustainable art exhibitions. In total, more than 25 events will be spread across 18 municipalities in the province, with a special emphasis on flamenco, featuring figures such as the dancer Carrete de Málaga and the singer Ezequiel Benítez.
The highlight of the week is the 25th International Festival of Poets' Singing, which will take place in Villanueva de Tapia from July 23 to 26. Organised with the support of the Diputación, the event will bring together poets and improvisers from Spain, Cuba, Colombia, Panama, and Argentina. Singer Aurora Guirado will open the festival on Thursday, the 23rd at 22:00 in the Plaza de España, with free entry.
On the same Thursday, pianist Diego Valdivia will present his show 'Aromas del Sur' in a sextet format in Gaucín, as part of the XXVI Flamenco Festival of the Cork Valley of Genal. The event will take place at 22:30 in the Plaza del Santo Niño, with free entry.
There are no scheduled events on Friday the 24th, but the agenda intensifies on Saturday the 25th. At 20:00, the group Electroduendes will perform a concert of Spanish pop covers at the Beneficial 80s Tardeo in Torremolinos, in the Plaza Pablo Ruiz Picasso. On the same day, at 21:30, the Juan Navarro Cultural Folkloric Association will perform at the Festival of Choirs and Dances in Frigiliana, in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas.
Flamenco will have two prominent events on Saturday night. At 22:00, dancer Antonio Guerra will present his flamenco group at the Paseo Marítimo de Mezquitilla, in Algarrobo. At the same time, but in Rincón de la Victoria, dancer Carrete de Málaga and singer Ezequiel Benítez will perform at the Flamenco Festival Puerta de la Axarquía, in the Gardens of the Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana. Both shows are free to enter.
Also on Saturday, the Young Provincial Orchestra of Málaga will offer a concert in Jimera de Líbar at 22:30 in the Virgen de la Salud square, featuring works by Lorca, Falla, and other composers. On Sunday the 26th, the grand finale will be the VII International Piano Festival of Málaga, with a closing concert at 19:00 in the Teatro Manuel España in Mijas, performed by the Málaga Symphony Orchestra under the direction of José Luis López Antón. Admission is free.
In terms of exhibitions, the Pacífico 54 space of the Diputación in the capital will host 'Presencias 61. Sustainable Art' from July 23 to September 11, a collective exhibition by the Association of Plastic Artists of Málaga (Aplama) featuring around fifty works. In the same space, until August 29, 'The Heart of the Brigade', a photographic exhibition about the forest firefighters of Infoca, can be visited, showcasing 23 images that portray their work. The hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 (until 20:00 for the second exhibition).
In Antequera, the MAD (Museum of Art of the Diputación) will host the exhibition 'Magical Realism' by Maribel Alonso until September 30, featuring nearly 80 paintings that trace her artistic career. It can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, and Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00.
For the residents of the province, this programme represents an opportunity to enjoy quality culture without travelling to the capital. Most events are free, making them accessible to all ages. The Diputación emphasises that flamenco, an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is the common thread of many activities, highlighting its value and its roots in the province.
Among the municipalities hosting events are Torremolinos, Cuevas de San Marcos, Benaoján, Salares, Cuevas Bajas, Rincón de la Victoria, Cortes de la Frontera, Faraján, Comares, Colmenar, Alhaurín de la Torre, Villanueva de Tapia, Gaucín, Frigiliana, Algarrobo, Jimera de Líbar, Mijas, and Antequera. The offerings are varied and include everything from traditional flamenco to classical music, as well as pop and contemporary art exhibitions.
