The City Council of Antequera has awarded the renovation works of the Alameda de Andalucía to the company Jicar S.L. for an amount of 1,459,260 euros, which represents a saving of almost 70,000 euros compared to the bidding budget.
The City Council of Antequera has given the green light to the transformation of the Alameda de Andalucía, one of the main roads in the city, after awarding the contract for the works to the Cordoban company Jicar S.L. The final amount of the project is 1,459,260 euros, a figure that improves by nearly 70,000 euros the 1,529,352 euros of the base bidding budget. The Catalan construction company ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras also submitted a bid, but it was the Montemayor firm that ultimately secured the project.
The renovation of the Alameda de Andalucía is part of the urban planning plans of the municipal mandate and aims to reconfigure this artery, which connects with the Paseo Real, into a more pedestrian-friendly environment. The design will maintain the aesthetic line of the reforms already executed on Infante Don Fernando, Cantareros, and Merecillas streets, with the goal of creating a cohesive urban ensemble.
One of the central axes of the project is the pedestrianization and improvement of accessibility. Sidewalks will be widened and the current marble pavement will be replaced with a non-slip material that reduces the risk of falls when the ground is wet. The distribution of space will vary according to sections: from the Plaza de la Constitución to Calle Merecillas, two differentiated levels for sidewalk and roadway will be maintained; from Merecillas to Plaza de San Luis, a single platform will be implemented; and in the Plaza de San Luis itself, a multipurpose area will be enabled that can function as a public square or as a circulation route for vehicles, depending on the needs of traffic and local commerce.
The project also includes a significant investment in underground works. The rainwater drainage network will be renewed to prevent the frequent flooding that the areas of San Francisco and Diego Ponce suffer during episodes of heavy rain. Additionally, the drinking water supply, sanitation, public lighting, telecommunications, traffic lights, and irrigation system pipelines will be completely replaced.
The execution period for the works has been set at 16 months. To minimize inconvenience to residents and businesses in the area, the work will be carried out in four consecutive phases, each lasting approximately four months. This way, the aim is to reduce the impact on mobility and commercial activity as much as possible.
The awarding of this work represents a step forward in the urban renewal plan that the City Council of Antequera is carrying out in the city centre. The Alameda de Andalucía is a road with high pedestrian and vehicular traffic, so its transformation will improve the quality of life for residents and the experience for visitors. Local residents should pay attention to the timelines of each phase to plan their movements, although the City Council has assured that they will be informed in advance of the necessary cuts and detours.
