The Mijas Town Hall has begun the works to replace the asbestos pipes in El Coto. The investment exceeds €362,000 and will benefit residents of four streets.
The comprehensive renewal works of the water supply in the El Coto urbanisation, in Mijas, have started today with an investment of €362,000. The project includes replacing the current asbestos pipes with ductile iron ones, a more resistant material with a larger diameter.
The works focus on the streets of Rebeco, El Corzo, Urogallo and Codornices and will have an execution period of three months. The Councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres, has informed that next Wednesday there will be a meeting with the residents of the affected areas to detail the work plan, which is being carried out by the company VGC Global.
The new network, with a length of 1,609.89 linear metres, will incorporate ductile iron pipes of 100 and 150 millimetres in diameter. Additionally, trench openings and closures will be carried out, connections will be replaced, and valves will be installed on the branches. The aim is to eliminate breakdowns and water losses, and to improve the pressure that reaches the homes.
Torres also pointed out that 104 household connections will be executed, following the regulations for low potable water supply from Acosol, the public company of the Costa del Sol Occidental Municipalities Association.
The same company will soon intervene in the Doña Pilar urbanisation, with a similar project affecting the streets Hernán Cortés, Alejandro Malaspina, Francisco Pizarro, Fernando de Magallanes, Juan Sebastián Elcano, and Pedro Valdivia. In that case, the layout is 1,377.35 linear metres, with 68 connections and a budget of €281,000. Between both actions, the total cost amounts to around €643,000.
The informative meeting with the residents of El Coto will be held this Wednesday in the work area, where the details of the intervention and the expected timelines will be explained.
