On the Murcian coast, the Civil Guard has arrested four boat skippers who were transporting migrants from the African continent to the Peninsula. The arrests occurred following an investigation focused on the irregular entry of people into this region.
Interventions in Calblanque and Cabo Cope
On August 31, a landing of 63 migrants was identified on the beach of Calblanque, in Cartagena. During the assistance to the migrants, it was confirmed that several of them had injuries and had paid significant sums to make the journey.
Testimonies revealed that the skippers had used violent methods and threats to control the migrants during the trip. Subsequently, the boat used was located and its two skippers were arrested.
On September 2, in the waters of Cabo Cope, Águilas, the Civil Guard intercepted another high-speed vessel. This action was initiated after detecting suspicious activity related to the illegal transportation of people. Despite the arrest orders, the crew attempted to flee, leading to a collision between the vessels. As a result of this maneuver, warning shots were fired without causing injuries.
Investigation and results
After the impact, the civil guards resumed the pursuit and managed to board the vessel, finding 28 jerrycans of fuel on board. Three officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The investigations, carried out by specialists in criminal offenses, have linked both vessels due to their characteristics, such as the power of the engines, which reaches 350 horsepower. This operation highlights the efforts of the Civil Guard in the fight against irregular immigration and smuggling on the Murcian coast.
