The Marbella City Council is carrying out conservation and improvement works at the five public schools in San Pedro Alcántara during the summer, with an annual budget of 300,000 euros.
The Marbella City Council has launched a plan for conservation and improvement works at the five public Early Childhood and Primary Education schools in San Pedro Alcántara. The work, which takes place during the summer months, will continue until the first week of September, taking advantage of the non-school period to carry out the most significant works without interfering with school activities.
The deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, has detailed that the programme has an annual allocation of 300,000 euros, which is complemented by ongoing interventions carried out by operational services during the school year in areas such as masonry, plumbing, carpentry, locksmithing, electricity, gardening, and incident management. The summer works are determined in coordination with the school administrations, which establish priorities according to the needs of each educational community.
At CEIP Al-Ándalus, the works focus on painting the perimeter fencing and the exterior wall, covering approximately 974 meters of fencing and 743 meters of wall, with an estimated duration of two weeks. Additionally, a protection net of 100 square meters will be installed on the sports court to prevent balls from leaving and to improve safety during recess. At the same time, the electrical installation of the centre is being adapted to facilitate the future implementation of the municipal air conditioning plan.
At CEIP Miguel Hernández, the City Council is constructing an access ramp to improve accessibility for students with reduced mobility. The metal carpentry and windows of the auditorium will also be replaced, a request made by the centre following recent works carried out inside the building by the Junta de Andalucía. Furthermore, the electrical installations are being renewed, including the separation of a supply that shared service with hydraulic installations, which caused incidents in the functioning of the centre.
At CEIP San Pedro, the interior lighting and electrical installation are being progressively renewed, along with various improvements in the playgrounds addressing the needs communicated by the school administration. At CEIP Teresa León, the priority works involve waterproofing the dining module and gym following incidents from last winter. This is complemented by the adaptation of the electrical installation to increase the available power for future air conditioning and the renewal of the rubber flooring in the Early Childhood play area.
Finally, at CEIP Fuente Nueva, the works include adapting the electrical installation for the future air conditioning system and renewing the toilets and bathrooms in the Early Childhood and first cycle Primary areas, a task deemed a priority by the centre. García explained that the adaptation of the electrical installations is a common action across all five schools, as it will allow for the subsequent installation of the equipment planned in the municipal air conditioning plan for educational centres. This thermal comfort project will be developed once the corresponding contract is awarded, with implementation expected between late 2026 and early 2027.
The residents of San Pedro Alcántara will thus see improvements in the educational infrastructure for their children, with interventions aimed at both safety and energy efficiency. The Marbella City Council continues with its maintenance plan for schools, which complements the actions carried out by the Junta de Andalucía in recent years. The works will be completed before the start of the school year, ensuring that the schools are in optimal condition for the return to classes.
