Marbella demands the Government improve the acoustic screens of the A-7

The councillor from the Popular group, Enrique Rodríguez, has detailed that numerous residents have expressed their concerns to the City Council about the inconveniences during the works, the potential impacts on homes, and the visual impact of the structures. Specifically, he has estimated the length of the screens at over six kilometres, reaching up to four and a half metres in height.

“These are not small barriers, but structures that have a significant presence next to homes, streets, and accesses to our city.”

Rodríguez has demanded that the announced vegetation integration be effectively developed, with suitable species, ground preparation, guiding elements, and irrigation systems, as well as the replacement of plants that do not take root. Another municipal request is for a specific plan for the conservation, cleaning, and maintenance of the screens and their surroundings, which includes periodic actions, the rapid removal of graffiti, cleaning of the structures, and repair of any possible damage.

The session has definitively approved the credit modification to finance the regeneration of the pavement of the old national road 340, in the stretch of the Milla de Oro between the Swedish Forest Centre and the Ashmawi roundabout. The councillor of Finance, Félix Romero, has explained that the action responds to a need confirmed by municipal technicians and that reports indicate a widespread deterioration of the pavement, with cracking in the form of crocodile skin, potholes, loss of material, surface defects, subsidence, and ruts.

“What we are doing is, plain and simple, undertaking a necessary work on one of the main communication routes of our city.”

Romero added that these deficiencies affect road safety, promote water accumulation, and reduce circulation conditions. The project covers approximately three kilometres of road, four lanes, and eight intervention areas, with an estimated surface area of 11,765 square metres. The action has a budget of 465,000 euros and will improve the regularity of the pavement, increase grip, and extend its lifespan.

The Plenary has also unanimously approved that two streets in the municipality be named after Remedios Nieto and Salvador Gil Machuca 'Moñi'. The mayor highlighted the trajectory of both residents. Regarding Salvador Gil, she recalled his more than 35 years linked to football as a player and as many as a coach, being the first footballer born in Marbella to play in the First Division and achieving four promotions with Marbella. She also highlighted the creation in 2006 of the Marbellí club, which has 14 teams and over 300 players, and through whose school more than 3,000 children have passed.

Of Remedios Nieto, a pharmacist and businesswoman, she emphasised her commitment to people with disabilities and their families. She was one of the promoters of Aspandem in 1979 and contributed to launching a pioneering project that promoted training, autonomy, and the labour integration of people with disabilities. She also promoted the Fundatul foundation. She was recognised as an Honourary Citizen of Marbella and awarded the City Medal.

Additionally, the Plenary has approved other motions regarding the resolution of the appeal for the delimitation for the Urban Transformation Action (ATU) of Boho Club, the modification of the composition of the municipal boards of the Marbella West and East districts, among other urban issues.
