COA Málaga celebrates the XVII Architecture Week from October 2 to 9 with urban routes and visits to buildings explained by their authors. Registrations, which are free and have limited capacity, open on September 29 at 10:00 hours.
The Official College of Architects of Málaga (COA Málaga) has scheduled the seventeenth edition of Architecture Week, which will take place from October 2 to 9 with free cultural activities, including urban routes and guided tours of buildings explained by their own authors, as published by Diario Sur.
The initiative is organised around World Architecture Day, which this year falls on Monday, October 5. The International Union of Architects has chosen the slogan 'Housing is a right. Let's build it!', in line with the proposals of the Superior Council of Architects' Colleges of Spain to address the difficulties of accessing decent and affordable housing.
The programme was presented at the Málaga City Hall with the councillor for Urbanism, Carmen Casero, and the dean of COA Málaga, Susana Gómez de Lara. The promotional poster was also unveiled, created by designer Alicia Isabel Jiménez Gómez, winner of the college's competition.
“Housing is a right, not a luxury,” the dean reminded, emphasising the need for public support and consensus to accelerate the renewal of the housing stock.
The central focus of the programme is the guided tours by the architects who designed each work. The agenda includes visits to award-winning projects in the Málaga Architecture Awards 2026, such as the Faculty of Tourism, Casa Cantal (Rincón de la Victoria), Oceanika Coliving (Torremolinos), Kiosquito, and FUNKER Hostel.
Visitors will also be able to see the renaturalisation of Casa Patio 2.12 through evapotranspirative ceramic elements and the ADIPA Residence in Antequera. The itinerary of the Catalogue of Mural Paintings of Málaga and a visit to the Revello de Toro Museum to learn about the rehabilitation of the former workshop house of Pedro de Mena, both of which received an honourable mention in the aforementioned awards, will also be included.
On Friday, October 2, the residential building 'Desfile del amor', located on Reding promenade, will receive the Docomomo Ibérico plaque certifying its heritage value as an example of modern architecture. Designed by José Joaquín González Edo between 1932 and 1935 and known for housing the Flor café, the subsequent visit will be guided by Ángel Asenjo.
The educational offer is completed with two proposals at the college headquarters. On Saturday, October 3, from 11:30 to 13:00 hours, a children's workshop 'Architecture that cares for the planet' will be held for children aged 5 to 12 years accompanied by an adult, focused on building sustainable models with Arquieduca. On Friday, October 9, the Tenerife architect Fernando Menis will give a lecture on the rehabilitation of the historic Viera and Clavijo Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
All activities are free. Registrations for guided tours and routes with limited capacity will open on Tuesday, September 29 at 10:00 hours on the website www.coamalaga.es.
