The Marbella City Council has begun work to establish a sports and leisure park in Xarblanca, featuring a petanque court, health machines, green areas, and new parking spaces.
The Marbella City Council has initiated work to create a sports and leisure park in the Xarblanca area, a 1,100 square metre space located at the intersection of Parra Street and Doña Francisca Carrillo Street, according to Diario Sur. The facility aims to provide alternatives for sports practice, recreation, and relaxation for residents of all ages.
The Councillor for Works, Diego López, explained that the project "aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activity for all residents of this educational, residential, and commercial area in the northern part of Marbella's urban centre." The work will include 290 square metres of recreational leisure areas with a petanque court, biosaludable exercise machines, shaded areas with sail-type awnings, urban furniture such as benches and bins, and spaces for table tennis, chess, and parchís.
"Trying to encompass many and varied sports and leisure activities," the councillor noted.
The project also includes 210 square metres of green areas and 13 new battery parking spaces, responding to the demand for parking in an area with high activity due to the presence of schools, the Xarblanca park, supermarkets, and residential complexes. The existing bus stop will also be expanded, the ecological island for urban solid waste will be relocated, and nine four-metre tall LED streetlights will be installed.
The works are estimated to take three months to complete.
