Marbella's Local Government has approved the processing of the Higuerón Golf Resort project for a luxury 5-star hotel linked to Marbella Golf, featuring 120 rooms and a €175 million investment.
The Local Government of Marbella, meeting in the Las Chapas District, has approved this Monday the processing and declaration of municipal interest for the project promoted by Higuerón Golf Resort to develop a hotel complex in the vicinity of Marbella Golf. The initiative includes the establishment of the first Waldorf Astoria brand hotel in Spain, as reported by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz.
The project envisages a luxury 5-star hotel with 120 rooms, apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms, and an investment of €175 million. The development will cover an area of approximately 687,000 square meters, with a specific scope of about 8.9 hectares and a buildable area of 80,000 square meters.

Muñoz detailed that the complex will include, in addition to the hotel, a clubhouse, dining areas, and commercial and sports zones. The mayor emphasized that the intervention “does not incorporate residential use, but maintains its tourist and sports character” and highlighted its integration into the environment: “We are talking about a hotel that is fully integrated, of very low height and with very low density on the land.”
The project arises from the agreement between Higuerón Golf Resort and Waldorf Astoria, one of the international hotel brands of the Hilton group. The mayor recalled the meeting held last year at one of the Waldorf Astoria establishments, where she learned about the initiative alongside the promoters. “They were particularly eager to make a significant investment that would place a piece of Waldorf Astoria in Europe, made in Spain in partnership with Marbella,” she noted.
The approval of the processing and the declaration of municipal interest will allow for the continuation of the administrative processing and the request for necessary reports, including those on mobility and landscape. Once completed, the file will be subjected to public exhibition before the construction license can be requested.
Muñoz highlighted the economic impact of the project, both during construction and in the subsequent operation of the complex: “It will not only generate jobs in construction and startup but also the maintenance of luxury facilities.” The mayor added that the investment will have an indirect effect on businesses and professionals in sectors such as installations, supplies, transport, and specialized services.
The City Council has worked with the promoters and municipal technical teams from the early stages to adapt the proposal to the planning and development model envisaged for Marbella.
