The Casa de la Cultura and the Colores building in Los Boliches will host three days of blood donation, organised by the Málaga Transfusion Centre, under the slogan 'Share Your Summer. Donate Blood and Save Lives'.
The Fuengirola City Council has announced a new blood donation campaign that will take place at three locations in the municipality from August 17 to 19. The initiative, driven by the Málaga Centre for Transfusion, Tissues and Cells, which is part of the Health and Family Department of the Andalusian Government, aims to strengthen reserves during the summer period.
The mobile units will be set up on August 17 and 18 at the Casa de la Cultura, on Avenida Juan Gómez Juanito, from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 21:00. On Wednesday, August 19, the collection will move to the Colores building, on Avenida de Los Boliches, where donations will only be accepted in the afternoon, from 17:00 to 21:00.
The Councillor for Health, Javier García Lara, has presented the campaign, which this year carries the slogan 'Share Your Summer. Donate Blood and Save Lives'. The City Council reminds that donating is a simple and safe gesture that is essential for cancer treatments, complex surgeries, traffic accidents, organ transplants, or blood disorders.
To donate, it is necessary to be between 18 and 65 years old and weigh 50 kilograms or more, as well as not suffer from chronic diseases, acute infections, or anaemia. It is mandatory to bring an ID or identification document, and it is recommended not to donate on an empty stomach.
The Málaga Transfusion Centre emphasises that the process is supervised by specialised healthcare personnel. Before the extraction, an interview and a medical check-up are conducted for the donor. Men can donate blood up to four times a year and women three times, with a minimum interval of two months between donations.
With this campaign, Fuengirola joins efforts to maintain blood reserves during the summer, a time when donations usually decline. Residents and visitors who wish to contribute can do so directly by going to any of the designated points on the specified dates.
