The modernisation works of the station, with an investment of €828,910, are progressing as scheduled and will enhance the operability of the SPEIS.
The Fuengirola City Council has confirmed that the renovation and modernisation works of the Fire Station have already reached 60% completion. The project, which began on April 6, has a budget of €828,910.39 and an execution period of 176 days.
The mayor, Ana Mula, accompanied by the councillor for Urban Planning, Rocío Arriaga, and the head of the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service and Rescue (SPEIS), José Julián Bueno, visited the facilities to check on the progress of the works. The company A7GR Servicios y Obras is responsible for executing the project.
“Fuengirola is a safe and orderly city, and it is so because we have sufficient human and technical resources and full, ongoing coordination among all bodies that ensure safety. It is necessary to continuously review the means and tools we have to be in the best possible position to respond to any emergency,” the mayor stated.
The intervention covers an approximate area of 1,400 square metres and includes the comprehensive reorganisation of spaces, distinguishing public use areas from operational zones. Inside, the ground floor is nearly finished, pending climate control tests, and the new control room has already been moved to its final location. On the upper floor, only the installation of the vinyl flooring remains.
In the vehicle bay, the new smoke extraction system has been completed, and the new rear exit door has been opened. The door for the fire truck is awaiting the arrival of the element. Outside, the installation of the metal structure for the new storage areas has begun, and the supporting structure for the new alucobond aluminium cladding has been placed on the façade.
The renovation includes improvements in safety and operability, such as direct visual control of the garage and manoeuvres, which will reduce response times. An emergency room or CECOPAL will also be created for managing major incidents, and the firefighters' rest and work areas will be renovated with better lighting, thermal and acoustic insulation.
The project also includes the remodelling of the training room, which will serve for the continuous training of the SPEIS and for outreach activities aimed at the public. The building's façade will have a more modern and recognisable appearance.
“This renovation represents a significant improvement of essential facilities for the safety of Fuengirola. We are providing our firefighters with more modern, functional, and safe spaces because we want them to have the best possible conditions to carry out their work and respond quickly and effectively when they are needed most,” concluded Ana Mula.
The works, whose final budget is nearly €150,000 lower than initially projected in the tender, are progressing according to the established schedule and are expected to be completed in the coming months.
