The Fuengirola Town Hall has organised 22 free activities for the European Sports Week #BeActive, which will take place from September 23 to 30. The Pedro Cuevas square in Los Boliches will be the main venue for classes in Pilates, Tai Chi, Zumba, and other disciplines.

Fuengirola will host the European Sports Week #BeActive from September 23 to 30, an initiative promoted by the Town Hall that includes 22 free activities for all ages and abilities. The Councillor for Sports, Julio Rodríguez, presented the programme on Wednesday, which aims to encourage sports participation and combat sedentary lifestyles.

The Pedro Cuevas square in Los Boliches will be the epicentre of the programme, with daily morning and afternoon classes in disciplines such as Pilates, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Zumba, and Maintenance Gymnastics, among others. There will also be activities at San Francisco beach, the Elola sports complex, the Palace of Peace, and the Plaza de España.

“With the European Sports Week #BeActive, we want the entire community to go out, engage in sports, and adopt healthy lifestyle habits during these days. It is a European initiative supported by the Higher Sports Council that aims to combat sedentary lifestyles and promote physical activity,” Rodríguez explained.

The councillor emphasised that the programme “is designed for all ages and abilities, from the youngest to our elders,” and encouraged the residents of Fuengirola to participate in this “great sports festival.”

The activities will kick off on Wednesday, September 23 with Qi Gong classes in the morning at the Pedro Cuevas square, led by technicians from the Sports Department. In the afternoon, at 8:00 PM, the Coliseo gym will offer a Zumba session.

On Thursday, September 24, the Pedro Cuevas square will host Pilates at 9:00 AM, Third Age classes at 10:00 AM, and again Pilates at 11:00 AM, conducted by municipal technicians. At 7:30 PM, Dianoa Training will lead a D-Pump class.

On Friday, September 25, the activity will move to San Francisco beach, where a family paddle surfing day will take place starting at 5:30 PM. On Saturday, September 26, the Palace of Peace will host the Novel Challenge Bodybuilding Championship from 10:30 AM.

On Sunday, September 27, the Elola sports complex will be the venue for the final of the III Copa Feria Pedro Cuevas, starting at 9:00 AM, and the IV Rafael Pino Women’s Football Tournament, from 5:00 PM.

On Monday, September 28, maintenance and Third Age classes will return to the Pedro Cuevas square in the morning, while on Tuesday, September 29, there will be Pilates at 9:00 AM and Zumba at 10:00 AM, led by technicians from the Sports Area.

The European Sports Week #BeActive will conclude on Wednesday, September 30 with three Qi Gong classes for everyone, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Pedro Cuevas square.

Rodríguez noted that this initiative will also allow for “showcasing the work of our technicians and instructors from the Town Hall’s directed activities, who will take their classes to the streets for everyone to experience.” He also highlighted the participation of private gyms and sports centres in the city, “which also play a very important role in promoting physical activity.”

“We want it to be a week where thousands of people can engage in sports, enjoy outdoor activities, and see that in Fuengirola we have a sports offer for everyone,” the councillor concluded.
