Estepona Town Hall is tendering for the purchase of a traditional purse seine fishing boat to replace the current one on Puerta del Mar Avenue. The budget is €68,970 and bids close on August 24.
Estepona Town Hall has put out to tender the acquisition of a new traditional fishing boat that will be installed in one of the roundabouts on Puerta del Mar Avenue to replace the one currently displayed in that space. The current boat's state of conservation necessitates its replacement, according to the local council.
The aim is to continue recovering and showcasing a representative example of the traditional purse seine boats from the Mediterranean coast, which reinforces Estepona's maritime identity and maintains this point of cultural and tourist interest. The Councillor for Historical Heritage, Daniel García, has stated that the replacement allows for the enhancement of local maritime-fishing heritage and the tradition of purse seine fishing, while also contributing to urban beautification with a new sculptural element.
The new vessel must be a traditional purse seine boat with a length between 11 and 13 metres and a beam between 3 and 4 metres. The hull may be made of wood and/or fibreglass and must retain the cabin or wheelhouse. The awarded company will need to deliver it in suitable conditions for transport and installation, as well as carry out cleaning, sanding, anti-corrosion treatment, and final finishing work. It must also include signage with its historical name or municipal designation.
The base tender budget amounts to €68,970 (VAT included). Among the award criteria, the best economic offer and the reduction of the delivery time will be evaluated. Interested companies can submit their bids until next August 24 through the Contractor Profile on the Electronic Headquarters of www.estepona.es.
The councillor has reminded that the boat is part of a set of ornamental elements related to the sea and fishing arts located along this artery, such as a reproduction of a lighthouse or a large ship's propeller. With this initiative, the Town Hall maintains its commitment to preserving the historical relationship of the municipality with the sea and fishing activities.
In this context, Daniel García has recalled that last November, the Sea Museum was inaugurated, located in the bullring, which pays tribute to the millennia-old relationship between humans and the ocean. The centre houses the Miguel López Mateo Collection, dedicated to preserving the memory of the trades, techniques, and tools of Mediterranean maritime culture.
