Estepona Town Hall will tender the expansion of its traffic control system with more than 170 devices at 82 points in the municipality, mainly in the outskirts, to improve traffic flow and safety.
Estepona Town Hall has announced the upcoming tender for the expansion of its intelligent traffic camera network, a project that will involve the installation of more than 170 devices at 82 points in the municipality, with a special focus on the outskirts but also in the urban area.
This new phase adds to the 240 devices that were installed three years ago, when the municipality became a pioneer in the province due to the type of technology used. The Deputy Mayor for Development, Infrastructure and Tourism, Ana Velasco, explained that the good results obtained since then have led the City Council to make a qualitative and quantitative leap in the system.
The new equipment, with greater capacity and better features, will allow the application of advanced technologies to optimise traffic flow and respond immediately to traffic jams or accidents. Management will be carried out from the Control Centre of the Estepona Local Police Headquarters, which will support other security bodies as needed.
The intelligent system interconnects in real-time and stores data and images on a central server located in municipal facilities, which can be accessed from the Local Police headquarters. Additionally, the video monitoring network can be used for speed control and reduction, with the installation of specific speed control points.
With this measure, the Town Hall aims to modify driver behaviour to improve overall mobility and road safety, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This expansion will reinforce traffic control on the main access and exit roads of Estepona, directly benefiting drivers who travel through the municipality daily.
The project is currently in the tender phase, so the execution timelines and estimated budget have not yet been disclosed. It is expected that the works will begin in the coming months and that the new network will be operational throughout 2027.
