Estepona City Council has tendered the renovation and refurbishment of 14 playgrounds, with an investment of 841,942 euros. Four of them will be completely renovated.

Estepona City Council has put out to tender the renovation and refurbishment of 14 playgrounds located in the urban area and outskirts, with a budget of 841,942 euros. This action, part of the second phase of the municipal improvement plan for these spaces, includes the complete renovation of four sites and the upgrading of another ten.

The Deputy Mayor for Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, has detailed that the parks to be fully renovated are Huerta Nueva, the Human Rights park on Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer Street, the park near Ramón Lago school in Cancelada, and the Los Niños park on Polonia Street.

In Huerta Nueva park, the current play equipment will be replaced with a pirate ship-style multi-play unit featuring a closed slide, rope bridge, and crawling tunnel, as well as the installation of solar LED lighting and continuous flooring. In the Human Rights park, the old play equipment and rubber flooring will be removed, and a multi-play unit with three towers, a double swing, seesaw, spring whale, an inclusive playhouse, and continuous flooring will be installed.

In the park next to Ramón Lago school in Cancelada, the deteriorated wooden fencing will be removed and a circular modular set with climbing walls, static hammock, swing, dragon seesaw, slide, safety fencing, and shock-absorbing flooring will be installed. Meanwhile, in the Los Niños park, recoverable play equipment will be refurbished, damaged elements will be removed, and a three-platform multi-play unit, swing, safety fencing, and continuous rubber flooring will be added.

The other ten parks that will benefit from the upgrades are located at Nuestra Señora de los Remedios square, Doctor Mena Arce square, La Lobilla, El Calvario, Antonio José Jiménez González street, Las Joyas, Los Pedregales, Miguel Ángel Blanco, El Carmen Sports Centre, and the public school Federico García Lorca.

Among the planned improvements in these sites are the installation of new multi-play units, replacement of rubber flooring, repair of fencing, and enhancement of existing elements. Additionally, in the park of Federico García Lorca school, a 50-square-metre sandpit and a drainage channel will be constructed.

Ruzafa reminded that this is the second phase of the playground renovation plan, following a first phase in which 18 sites were improved with an investment of 1.1 million euros. That initiative benefited spaces such as the Cancelada nursery, Plaza de las Nieves, the Isdabe Town Hall, Blas Infante, Espronceda, Plaza Pescadores, Altos de Guadalobón, and El Abuelo Park, among others.

With this new investment, the City Council aims to improve the safety and condition of play areas for young children, a goal that will be achieved through the execution of the works, the timelines for which will be specified after the contracts are awarded.
