The Estepona Municipal Band begins its seventeenth summer season on Sunday, July 26 at 21:00 in the Plaza del Reloj, with five free performances until August 23.
The Estepona Municipal Band (BME) kicks off its traditional summer concert cycle this Sunday, July 26. The event, now in its seventeenth edition, will take place in the Plaza del Reloj starting at 21:00, with free entry for all audiences.
Under the direction of maestro José Antonio López Camacho, the ensemble will offer five performances every Sunday until August 23. The repertoire includes everything from zarzuela and classical music to film soundtracks, featuring pieces that will be performed for the first time by the band.
A Varied Programme for Summer Nights
The inaugural concert, titled 'Music for Summer Nights', includes works by Ferrer Ferran, Germán Álvarez Beigbeder, Julián Palanca, and Ventura Cartagena. Highlights include the pasodobles and the Spanish overture 'Con Arte, Genio y Figura' by Ferrer Ferran, premiered in 2024.
The evening also features a nod to cinema: 'The Magic of Harry Potter' will be performed, with arrangements by Michael Story, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the first film's release. Additionally, 'My Neighbor Totoro', by Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi, will resonate, paying tribute to animation.
Among the pieces being performed for the first time in Estepona are the pasodoble 'Garachico', by Sergio Infante Pérez, composed in 2025, and the military march 'El teniente Raposo', by Julián Palanca. Attendees will enjoy a total of eleven works on the first night.
A Band with History and Local Roots
The Estepona Municipal Band, founded in 1940, is one of the longest-standing musical groups in Spain. It has been performing continuously for 86 years, making it a cultural reference on the Costa del Sol. In 2015, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, the City Council awarded it the Gold Medal of the City.
For the residents of Estepona, these concerts are an unmissable summer event. The Plaza del Reloj, located in the heart of the old town, transforms every Sunday into an open-air stage where music envelops families, tourists, and enthusiasts.
