The Estepona City Council activates a special security and traffic operation for the arrival of the 19th stage of La Vuelta this Friday, with road closures in the urban area between 13:30 and 18:30 hours.
The City Council of Estepona has organised a special security and traffic operation to welcome this Friday, September 11, the arrival of the 19th stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España, which will traverse the urban area and finish at the summit of Peñas Blancas-Los Reales.
Traffic will be severely restricted on the roads along the route between 13:30 and 18:30 hours. The passage of the peloton through the urban area is expected to occur approximately between 15:00 and 17:00 hours, subject to possible changes depending on the progress of the stage and the instructions from the Civil Guard and the organisers.
The itinerary that the peloton will follow is as follows: entry from the A-7 (direction Marbella-Estepona, exit at km 1.067), Litoral Avenue, Spain Avenue, Pedro Manrique promenade, Carmen Avenue, Puerta del Mar Avenue, Cibernética roundabout, Ricardo Ortega Street, San Fernando Square, San Fernando Street, Andalucía Avenue, Los Reales Avenue and MA-8301 road towards Peñas Blancas-Los Reales, with the finish line near the viewpoint of the Carlos Martínez statue.
The City Council reminds the need to remove vehicles parked in the designated areas of the route in advance. It also advises residents and drivers to plan their journeys, use alternative routes, and follow the instructions of traffic officers.
To facilitate mobility that day, the municipal nursery schools and infant and primary educational centres in the city will finish their classes at 13:00 hours.
The municipal Parks and Gardens service is enhancing the green spaces along the route, and has planted palm trees, fan palms, and ornamental vegetation on Litoral Avenue and other locations. The operational brigades are carrying out actions such as the temporary removal of streetlights, vertical signs, bollards, and concrete elements, as well as the temporary elimination of the roundabout on Teatro Street and the provisional trimming of the one on Terraza Street. Pavements on Spain Avenue are also being repaired, and a ramp will be formed next to the Mirador del Carmen tower.
The broadcast of the stage will be aired in nearly 190 countries, with an estimated accumulated audience of over 450 million viewers throughout the competition, providing a significant tourist showcase for the city.
On Friday, 3,000 t-shirts made by the City Council will be distributed for free. The distribution will begin at 12:00 hours at three points: at the doors of the City Hall and at the start of Terraza Street by Spain Avenue. The organisation will also set up the Parque Vuelta, a Fan Zone area with stands where event materials will be distributed, on Spain Avenue, between the children's play area and Delfín Street.
