The Pedro Romero Fair and Festivities in Ronda concludes with great participation and no serious incidents, having recovered the Goyesca and other events suspended due to the works on the square. The City Council highlights the success in attendance and the reinforcement of security.
Thousands of people have participated from last Tuesday until this Sunday in the Pedro Romero Fair and Festivities of Ronda, which this year has regained normalcy with the celebration of the Goyesca and the rest of the bullfighting festivities, following the completion of the rehabilitation works of the Ronda bullring carried out by the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda.
The municipal delegate for Festivities, Rebeca Muñoz, made a "very positive" assessment of the event on Monday, highlighting the "great public participation" and that the Goyesca Ladies and their president, Milagros Naranjo, were able to enter the square after three years. Muñoz especially thanked the associations for their work, through the Asociación de Peñas de Ronda (ASOPE), and noted that "the fairground has been full."
"The balance of the Fair is very positive. We have regained normalcy with the Goyesca and the rest of the bullfighting festivities and the Enganches in the square," affirmed Muñoz.
The prior agenda included the Opening Speech by the mayor of Grazalema, Carlos García, as a thank you for the hospitality of the residents of this town in Ronda due to the stormy weather, as well as the Festival de Cante Grande, the exhibition of shawls by Rosario Solís, the charity dinner for the victims of the earthquake in Venezuela, and the Folkloric Galas. There was also a floral offering to Pedro Romero at his monument in the Alameda, the inauguration of the fair entrance, designed by the Ronda architect Pilar Serratosa, and a visit to the Patroness, the Virgin of Peace.
Regarding security, the councillor for Citizen Security, Alicia López, highlighted that only minor incidents were recorded, none of them serious. The Local Police of Ronda deployed between 49 and 58 officers daily, reaching 68 on Saturday. 10 reports for possession of drugs were filed, 9 for public safety, 20 for violations of the coexistence ordinance, 6 for urinating in public, 5 for street vending, and 5 for consuming alcohol in the street.
Additionally, 182 bottles of alcohol, 27 tickets for the Goyesca, and nearly 3,500 euros from individuals selling them illegally were confiscated, along with a taser. There were 6 brawls with minor injuries, and preventive checks for alcohol and drugs were carried out every night. Civil Protection had between 15 and 20 volunteers daily (45 on Saturday), accumulating over 2,000 hours, 125 medical assists, 15 hospital transfers, and 3 searches for lost minors in the venue.
"Despite the large influx of people, we have not had to regret any serious incidents, and overall, these have decreased compared to previous editions," stated López.
The councillor for Traffic, Jorge Fernández, reported 8 traffic accidents, one with minor injuries and the rest only material damage. He explained that the traffic cut on the ring road, at the accesses to the Lidl roundabout and the Monument to healthcare workers, was imposed by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) to ensure access for trains, buses, and taxis to the fair entrance and safety in emergencies. "At all times, there has been a clear route for emergencies," he assured.
Nearly one thousand parking spaces were made available for the Fair, next to the train station and in the current and old fairgrounds, managed by Ayuca and Alfaro for charitable purposes.
