The Artistas por los ODS festival celebrates its sixth edition in Benalmádena with theatre, dance, music, science, muralism, and circus. Activities will be free until full capacity at educational centres, cultural spaces, and the Parque de la Paloma.
The sixth edition of the Festival Artistas por los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODSFEST) will take place in Benalmádena from October 1 to 4 with a programme that includes theatre, dance, music, science, muralism, and circus. The Benalmádena Town Hall collaborates in the initiative, organised by the Spanish Association of Social Innovation (AEIS), and all activities will be free entry until full capacity.
The Councillor for Culture, Jésica Trujillo, has stated that the festival allows bringing culture closer to residents "in a different way, taking it to schools, to the library, to our cultural spaces, and also to iconic places like the Parque de la Paloma."
"We want art to also be a tool to reflect on important issues such as equality, inclusion, diversity, or environmental care, but doing so from emotion, creativity, and participation," Trujillo added.
This edition focuses on the figure of Federico García Lorca, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of his death. His legacy will be present in several proposals of the festival.
The programme will kick off on Thursday, October 1 at the Casa de la Cultura with the inauguration at 11:30 am. At 12:00 pm, 'La Mecanógrafa', a dance-theatre piece inspired by 'Así que pasen cinco años', will be performed by the International Centre for Dance and Theatre Verónica López along with Clave Producciones. The activity will be aimed at students from the Cerro del Viento and Arroyo de la Miel high schools.
On Friday, October 2, the festival will reach educational centres with the participation of researchers from the Málaga Oceanographic Centre (CSIC). Isabel Martínez Monreal will address Antarctica at the IES Ibn Al-Baytar, where students will create a collective mural with muralist Javi Almirón. Meanwhile, Cristina Ciércoles will give a talk on plastics and environmental preservation in the Alboran Sea at CEIP La Leala.
At 7:00 pm, the Arroyo de la Miel Public Library will host 'La maleta de Federico', by Joni Macarroni, a participatory proposal around Lorca's poetry, childhood memories, songs, and games.
The programme will continue on Saturday, October 3, at 6:30 pm at the Exhibition Centre, with a conceptual and immersive concert by Daniel Blacksmith, combining classical guitar, minimalist piano, electronics, and cinematic atmospheres.
ODSFEST will conclude on Sunday, October 4 at 12:00 pm in the Parque de la Paloma with a proposal aimed especially at families. The company El Articuario will present 'Circus Arts for the SDGs', a show featuring juggling, magic, and soap bubbles that will convey the importance of respecting animals and caring for the environment in a fun way.
Trujillo concluded that it is "a very diverse programme designed to reach different audiences. We want to continue betting on accessible, participatory culture capable of generating awareness, learning, and coexistence."
All activities are aimed at the citizens of Benalmádena and will be free entry until full capacity.
