The Plenary of the Benalmádena City Council has definitively approved the detailed study of the RE-H-06 plot in Doña María Norte, which will allow the construction of 349 protected homes. The operation transforms a hotel land of 25,146 square meters thanks to measures from the Junta de Andalucía.
The Benalmádena City Council has given the final green light to the detailed study of the RE-H-06 plot in the Doña María Norte area, which will enable the construction of 349 protected homes. The approval passed in the Plenary with votes in favour from the People's Party and abstentions from PSOE, VOX, and IU.
The initiative is promoted by Urbania Resi Developments and is supported by the urgent housing measures of the Junta de Andalucía, which allow land designated for tourist accommodation to be allocated for protected housing. The plot, measuring 25,146.04 square meters, was originally planned for hotel use.
The planning reserves 8,213.52 square meters (or 32.66% of the total) for local public systems. Of these, 1,569.63 are for basic community facilities, 1,601.32 for green areas, and over 5,000 for open spaces. The private land totals 16,932.51 square meters, including residential plots and golf course land.
The homes will be distributed across five blocks. The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, stated that this approval is
“a decisive step towards making one of the main protected housing developments planned in Benalmádena a reality and continuing to address one of the greatest concerns of our residents, especially young people and families who are increasingly struggling to access housing”
Lara added that the City Council is using “all the tools that the Junta de Andalucía has made available to municipalities to mobilise land and generate protected housing.”
The City Council has already promoted over 570 protected homes, in addition to the 230 in Rocas Blancas, on land acquired by the Council. There are also two plots designated for social housing and one million euros allocated for municipal long-term rental assistance, of up to 3,600 euros annually.
In the same session, the Plenary approved an institutional motion to join the World Mental Health Day 2026, focused on youth under the slogan ‘Match with your mental health’. The agreement includes campaigns against stigma, training for municipal staff, suicide prevention, and a municipal strategy against unwanted loneliness.
