The Málaga Clinical Hospital has celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Sarcoma Committee, coinciding with World Sarcoma Day. This committee, part of the Virgen de la Victoria university hospital complex, is fundamental in the comprehensive care of patients with sarcoma, assessing over 500 individuals each year.
The multidisciplinary team is made up of experts from 11 specialties, who handle the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients. Throughout its 25-year history, the committee has ensured personalised care tailored to each case, optimising diagnosis times and the effectiveness of treatments.
Structure and Functioning of the Committee
The structure of the Sarcoma Committee includes professionals from various specialties such as General Surgery, Radiodiagnosis, Pathological Anatomy, Radiotherapy Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Traumatology, and Medical Oncology. Depending on the complexity of each case, collaboration with other specialists in Thoracic, Plastic, Maxillofacial, and Vascular Surgery is included.
The coordinated work of this team allows for a more effective approach to the disease, adapting to new care standards throughout its history. This constant evolution is key to improving care for patients with sarcoma.
Meeting and Recognition Day
To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the Committee has organised a meeting day in which team members, patients, and families participated. This event served as a space for camaraderie and recognition of the committee's effort and dedication in their daily work.
