The Ronda City Council will launch a web section in September to consult the management of its 200,000 square meters of green areas and the 5,000 trees in the urban area.
The Ronda City Council will provide a space on its municipal website (www.ronda.es) starting in September for residents to consult, interactively, the daily management carried out by the Parks and Gardens Department. The initiative, presented by Councillor Concha Muñoz, aims to bring transparency to the work of the area and debunk false information circulating on social media.
The new section will include a map showing the location of the 5,000 trees in the urban core, with data on their species, number, and conservation status. It will also detail the situation of the 39 ornamental and drinking water fountains, as well as children's areas, health equipment, and calisthenics zones. Each element is being documented with photographs to keep track of inventory.
Muñoz explained that the goal is for citizens to access the daily work of the area with just one click, and noted that work is already underway to upload all the information so it will be available by the end of September. The councillor aims to counteract the spread of incorrect data on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
In recent months, the City Council has created new green areas in Plaza del Llanete, around the municipal library Adolfo Suárez, and on Guadalcobacín Street. Nine trees have been planted on Sevilla Street, and over 40 in the La Feria neighbourhood, along with various species of shrubs in the landscaped areas. Plantings have also taken place on Maestro de Obras Díaz Machuca Street, with more than a dozen specimens.
One of the most notable actions has been in Las Sindicales, an area that, according to Muñoz, “has become the Gardens of Ronda”. In the last tree planting campaign, 107 specimens were extraordinarily planted, surpassing 200 in the past year, when the annual average is around 50. “We are very satisfied,” the delegate stated.
With this measure, the City Council aims to bring the management of green areas closer to the public and provide updated information about a heritage that includes 200,000 square meters of parks and gardens. The municipal website will be the main channel for accessing this data, which will be updated as work progresses.
