The vice minister of Justice, Local Administration and Public Function, Ana María Corredera, visited Villanueva del Trabuco to supervise PFEA works, which involve over 572,000 euros in street renovation and football field access.
The vice minister of Justice, Local Administration and Public Function of the Junta de Andalucía, Ana María Corredera, visited Villanueva del Trabuco this week to inspect the progress of two projects funded by the Programa de Fomento de Empleo Agrario (PFEA). The total investment exceeds 572,000 euros, aimed at improving infrastructure and generating local employment.
During the visit, Corredera was accompanied by the territorial delegate in Málaga, María Teresa Pardo, and met with the mayor of Villanueva del Trabuco, Juan Alejandro Pascual Martín, along with municipal technicians and works supervisors. The group toured the sites of the two ongoing projects: the urbanisation of the Los Ángeles area and the new access to the Municipal Football Field.
The PFEA, co-financed by the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación de Málaga, and the Government of Spain, is a key tool for rural municipalities like Villanueva del Trabuco. It provides stable employment throughout the year for local residents, especially in the agricultural sector, while improving public infrastructure. In this case, the investment is divided into two strategic actions.
The first project, the urbanisation of the Los Ángeles area, includes the remodelling of Calle Varcam and adjacent streets, with a budget of 447,557.04 euros. This will enhance the urban environment, improve accessibility, and increase property values in the neighbourhood. The second project, the construction of a new access to the Municipal Football Field, has been allocated 124,856 euros, facilitating better access to sports facilities for residents and visitors.
The vice minister highlighted the importance of such investments in rural areas, stating that they promote economic development and social cohesion. She noted that the PFEA not only creates direct employment during the execution of works but also has a multiplier effect on local businesses and services. In Villanueva del Trabuco, a municipality of around 5,500 inhabitants, these projects are vital for maintaining population levels and improving quality of life.
“During the visit, the good progress of the works was confirmed, reaffirming the commitment of the different administrations to the development of the municipality, the modernization of its infrastructure and the creation of stable employment,” said municipal sources.
The mayor, Juan Alejandro Pascual Martín, expressed gratitude for the continuous support from regional and national authorities. He emphasized that the PFEA projects are a lifeline for many families, especially during periods of low agricultural activity. The combination of infrastructure improvement and employment generation is exactly what the town needs to face future challenges.
Comparatively, Villanueva del Trabuco has received similar investments in previous years through the PFEA, which have allowed for the renovation of other streets and public spaces. This consistent funding has helped the town maintain a steady pace of improvement, even during economic downturns. The current projects are expected to be completed within the next few months, weather permitting, and will provide work for dozens of local labourers.
In addition to the direct employment, the upgraded infrastructure is likely to attract more visitors and potential investors to the area. The new football field access, for example, will facilitate local sports events and tournaments, potentially boosting tourism and commerce. The urbanisation of Los Ángeles will improve the daily lives of residents and enhance the town's overall appeal.
The visit concluded with a tour of the works, where officials discussed future plans and the need for continued collaboration between administrations. The vice minister assured the mayor that the Junta remains committed to supporting rural municipalities through programs like the PFEA. She encouraged other towns in the region to apply for similar funding to address their own infrastructure needs.
For the residents of Villanueva del Trabuco, these projects represent tangible progress. The streets will soon be more accessible, and the football field will have a proper entrance, making the town a better place to live and visit. The employment generated also provides economic stability, allowing families to plan for the future with greater confidence.
