In Málaga, the Civil Guard has reported the arrest of two individuals related to the severe forest fire that occurred in Almorox, Toledo. The fire, which started on July 22, has so far scorched nearly 900 hectares and is also affecting the Community of Madrid.
This fire has forced the evacuation of several urbanisations and nearby towns, causing significant material damage, including the destruction of homes. The investigation, carried out by SEPRONA along with the Environmental Agents Corps of the Provincial Delegation of Sustainable Development of Toledo, has identified the point of origin of the fire.
The Causes of the Fire
It has been determined that the fire originated from welding work carried out on a metal structure in forest land, an activity that is illegal during the high-risk fire season. On the day of the incident, the Potential Propagation Index (IPP) was at an extreme level, making the situation even more dangerous.
The investigations allowed for the identification of the two arrested individuals as responsible for the prohibited activity. Both face a charge of forest arson and have been placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
Other Fires in Galicia
In another case, the Civil Guard has arrested a 48-year-old man in the municipality of Meaño, Pontevedra, as the alleged perpetrator of several intentional forest fires. These fires have affected a highly touristic area, increasing the risk of fires in this region.
The arrests and investigations reiterate the importance of complying with fire prevention regulations, especially during high-risk periods.
