The third section of the extension of line 2 of the metro, between Blas de Lezo and the Civil Hospital, begins with the closure of Eugenio Gross to traffic between Martínez de la Rosa and Velarde. Lines 15 and 18 of the EMT are modifying their routes and relocating a stop.
The extension works of the metro line 2 towards the Civil Hospital have entered a new phase that is already impacting traffic in the capital. From this Tuesday, the section of Eugenio Gross between Martínez de la Rosa and Velarde is closed to traffic and parking is prohibited, as reported by Diario Sur. The three sections of the route are currently under construction, with the last to start being the one from Eugenio Gross to Blas de Lezo.
The occupation of the roadway necessitates the establishment of alternative routes while the works are ongoing. Northbound vehicles will need to divert via Séneca street or Barcelona avenue to join Blas de Lezo through Velarde. Southbound traffic coming from Blas de Lezo will have to continue along Camino de Suárez and Moraima street. Turns onto Eugenio Gross remain restricted, although usual maneuvers at Martínez de la Rosa and Velarde are maintained.
Public transport is also affected. Lines 15 (Virreina-Carlos Haya-Santa Paula) and 18 (Ciudad Jardín-Teatinos) of the EMT will temporarily run along Barcelona avenue. The stop located on Eugenio Gross is being moved to Martínez de la Rosa street.
Access to adjacent streets will have specific arrangements. Domingo Savio street will maintain its entry from Berrocal and will allow exits via Berrocal and Filipinas street. Vicente Ferrer street will only have entry and exit from Filipinas. In both cases, access will be permitted only for authorized vehicles not exceeding five meters in length.
Pedestrian accessibility is guaranteed at all times. Routes for pedestrians, as well as access to homes, garages, and businesses, will remain operational without affecting the transit of residents or the commercial activity in the area.
The section now commencing spans 510 meters in length, from the intersection of Blas de Lezo and Martínez de la Rosa with the Arroyo de los Ángeles to Simón Bolívar avenue. The works began last July and include the construction of the Civil Hospital station, which will serve the existing healthcare complex and the future Hospital Virgen de la Esperanza. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the FEDER 2021-2027 Operational Programme.
