The Government delegate in Málaga, Patricia Navarro, highlighted the commitment of the Junta of Andalucía to the protection of minors under guardianship in the province. This was discussed in a meeting with the Acógeles association, where solutions were addressed to improve foster care.
Situation of minors under guardianship in Málaga
In the province of Málaga, there are a total of 957 minors under the protection of the Andalusian Government. Of these, nearly half, that is, 465 minors, are living in foster families. This figure includes 377 minors in permanent foster care, 67 in temporary foster care, and 21 in emergency foster care.
Navarro emphasized that the administration seeks for minors to develop in an appropriate family environment. This approach responds to the premise that a minor will be better off in a foster family than in a residential centre, where many of them were previously placed.
Resources and support for foster families
The Junta of Andalucía has renewed the management service for foster care, awarding the contract to Fundación Hogar Abierto and Asociación Infania, with an investment of 2,812,800 euros for a period of two years. This service includes information, training, and monitoring actions for families and minors in the foster care process.
Navarro also highlighted the importance of the collaboration of foster families, who play a key role in understanding the needs of minors first-hand. The Andalusian Government is committed to providing support and ensuring the well-being of these children and adolescents in various areas of social care.
