The Diputación de Málaga has put out to tender the supply of a 32-metre turntable ladder and two heavy rural fire engines for a total amount of two million euros.
The Provincial Fire Consortium will have a new automatic turntable ladder of 32 metres and two heavy rural fire engines with 4x4 traction, as announced this Wednesday by the Diputación de Málaga, which has put both supplies out to tender for a total amount of two million euros.
The tender will remain open until 9 September and is divided into two lots: 900,000 euros for the articulated turntable ladder and 1.1 million euros for the two heavy rural fire engines, designed to operate in hard-to-reach areas.
The president of the Diputación, Francisco Salado (PP), defended in a statement the "investment effort" of the institution to strengthen the Consortium's resources and progressively modernise the vehicles of the personnel. According to Salado, the aim is to incorporate increasingly specialised units to tackle different types of emergencies.
The new turntable ladder will have a maximum height of 32 metres and will feature articulation, allowing it to be used in firefighting and rescue operations at height even in relatively narrow streets. The vehicle will be equipped with stabilisers, a hydraulic system, a rotating platform, a main control station, a telescopic ladder, and a basket intended for rescue operations.
The equipment will allow water to be projected from different heights with a flow rate of up to 2,000 litres per minute, expanding the operational possibilities in building fires and other emergencies at high elevations. With this addition, the Consortium's fleet will have eight turntable ladders: seven current ones and this new one.
Currently, the Consortium has four 32-metre turntable ladders, located at the parks in Antequera, Vélez-Málaga, Estepona, and Torremolinos, and three other units of 27 metres located in Ronda, Coín, and Colmenar. The presence of one of these vehicles in Vélez-Málaga allows for interventions at height both in the capital of Axarquía and in the coverage area of this regional park.
The two new heavy rural fire engines will incorporate 4x4 traction and will be designed to navigate dirt roads, forested areas, muddy zones, and other locations where urban fire engines face greater access difficulties. Each unit will have a tank with a capacity of 3,000 litres of water, although they will also be able to respond to emergencies within urban areas.
This new tender adds to other acquisitions made during 2026. At the end of July, two specialised logistical vehicles entered service: an Advanced Command Post and a truck specifically equipped for flood interventions and rescues. Salado has assured that these units position the Málaga service as a "national reference" in certain emergency devices.
In February, the Consortium had incorporated another twelve vehicles: six 4x4 off-road vehicles prepared for floods, a chemical unit for emergencies involving hazardous substances, and five 4x4 vans for transporting personnel and materials. The Diputación frames all these acquisitions within a broader process of renewing the material resources of the organisation.
The strategy will continue with new vehicles and more personnel. Salado has announced that this year the incorporation of two light urban pumps and an articulated ladder of 54 metres with an elevator, unique in the province, is planned. For 2027, the Diputación plans to incorporate 46 new firefighters, of which 21 will be assigned to the Álora-Pizarra park, located in Zalea, and the remaining 25 will reinforce the operations and administration of the Consortium. "Our commitment is to continue strengthening human and material resources," Salado emphasised.
The tender is open on the contracting profile of the Diputación until 9 September, and it is expected that the new vehicles will be incorporated throughout 2027.
